What Causes Hay Fever?
Hay fever also known as allergic rhinitis has the misconception by many people that it is caused by hay and is accompanied by a fever. In actuality hay fever is caused by a variety of factors and does not cause fevers. Mold spores, dust mites, pollen and pets are the leading causes of hay fever. Hay fever may also be caught anytime of the year, it is not seasonal as most people think it is and is triggered by many different types of allergens.

Pollen from trees, grass and weeds are leading allergens that cause hay fever. Ragweed which is overabundant during the fall season is one of the most common triggers of hay fever symptoms. Tree pollen is highest in the spring and grass pollen is around mostly in late spring and summer which both can trigger hay fever.
What Causes Hay Fever: Mold Spores
Hay fever may also be caused by mold spores. Mold spores are extremely dangerous and can be found both outside and inside your home. When you breathe in these tiny mold spores the bodies natural immune system releases a chemical into your bloodstream called histamine which will ultimately lead to hay fever symptoms.
Dust mites are microscopic bugs that mainly live inside of homes. They most commonly live on mattresses, in pillow cushions, and in carpeting and furniture. When someone suffering hay fever comes in contact with any of these allergens they will begin to experience a number of symptoms. A runny nose, itchy red eyes, sneezing, and nasal congestion are common ways to tell if hay fever is present.
Another very common cause of hay fever is pets. Hay fever symptoms are often triggered by being exposed to pet dander. Pet dander is very light in weight and very small so it can be carried very easily through the air most times without detection from the naked human eye. If a hay fever sufferer comes in contact with any of this pet dander an allergic reaction is imminent.
Genetics also plays a role in the development of hay fever. The presence of nasal polyps may also determine whether or not a person is likely to develop hay fever. Those who have asthma have a elevated risk of having hay fever as one quarter of hay fever sufferers also suffer from asthma. In some cases of hay fever, the severity of the symptoms decrease over the years.
